"I have finally completed this oil painting which I first began a couple of months ago, El Chinaco, the name of this dance costume from Mexico. The patience, fortitude and good looks of handsome John are beyond measure. Week after week he has dressed and posed for this, his second portrait in dance costume - this time from the Puebla region of Mexico - and has been uncomplaining and charming throughout.
