"This was another of the still life subjects I painted for The Hornton Gallery in London, gone but not forgotten, which allowed me to eat twenty years ago! I had an interest in ancient Chinese grave goods, the items that were placed with the dead to provide them with servants, livestock and transportation in the afterlife, rather as the Egyptian pharaohs did. This little collection of Han and Tang Dynasty ceramics with a Sung Dynasty vase was all sold four years ago to help finance my relocation to the US, along with many other Chinese pieces which had sharply risen in price from when I had originally bought them."
