This lad was the son of my neighbors in Paris, and I drew him several times, often, as here, in ‘orientaliste’ costume. I have a soft spot for French art of the 19th century, especially J-L Gérome and the Orientalistes, but I wanted to do my pieces in my own way of course, here using ‘trois crayons’, three crayons: sanguine red, white and black.
