Paul Binnie North Rocks, Black's Beach: Moon Shadows

Paul Binnie “North Rocks, Black's Beach: Moon Shadows” artwork
"I’m pleased to announce a new pair of woodblock prints, the seventh and eighth designs in my ongoing series ‘The Sun and Moon of Black’s Beach’, of figures on the California coast. The titles of this new work is ‘North Rocks, Black’s Beach: Moon Shadows’ and its pair is ‘Hazy Sunlight’: they show my regular model Spenser McGarvey perched on a rocky outcrop which marks the northern end of the beach. Both versions make use of a great deal of textured printing to suggest the individual rocks, and each has over forty printings and overprintings, with the night sky in the moon version being reduction printed from two blocks, but using seven printings in that small area alone. The glow around the moon reflects in the ebbing waves of the Pacific Ocean, and the cliffs are also reflected in the area of waterlogged wet sand at the ocean’s edge. Both versions have a metallic-ink BINNIE seal, like the previous designs in this series, silver for Moon, gold-bronze for Sun." Paul Binnie
