"I very often do sketches on my regular trips to Black’s Beach, generally in conté on paper of the friends I’m with, but here is a little plein-air oil study of the sunset as it happened. Many of the beaches of California face west, and most get spectacular sunsets, so I completed this little canvas in about 50 minutes but was finishing it as it got dark and I had only the light from my phone to see by! By a lucky chance I found this Edwardian frame which was the same size and after a little clean up, I felt it complemented the painting rather well." Binnie, July 2022.
