Paul Binnie The Well Cradle

Paul Binnie “The Well Cradle” artwork
Another of the Noh paintings made during the last year I lived in Tokyo, this one a rather touching tale. A young woman is separated from the man she loves but by putting on his court hat and robe then looking down into the reflection in the well, she may imagine she sees him again. Here the wooden curb of the well is represented by a simple framework of bamboo wrapped in cloth and wooden slats.
