The Well Cradle c.

Paul Binnie “The Well Cradle” 1998 main image
Izutsu is the well, beside which sprout autumn grasses where once a little boy and girl used to play. The boy has grown up to become one of Japan's famous poets, and the young woman dons his hat and robes to revive his memory. Peering into the well she imagines she sees his reflection looking back at her.
